






“What goes in the salt mine stays in the salt mine.”
People and equipment both enter the salt mine (650 feet underground) by way of a single lift that’s a few feet wide and deep. Large equipment had to be disassembled to fit on the lift, then reassembled in the mine. Having done all that, there was no way they’d repeat the process to get old machinery back up. Decades-old mining equipment and parts sit on display in the museum area.
